Liquid Amies Media

Liquid Amies Media is ready-to-use media intended for the collection, transport and preservation of clinical specimens for examination.

Product Description

INTENDED USE

Liquid Amies Media is ready-to-use media intended for the collection, transport and preservation of clinical specimens for examination.

SPECIFICATION

1ml/tube, 2ml/tube, 3ml/tube, 3.5ml/tube, 5ml/tube, 6ml/tube; Pkg of 20, Pkg of 30, Pkg of 50, Pkg of 100, Pkg of 200, Pkg of 300, Pkg of 400, Pkg of 500.

SUMMARY AND PRINCIPLES

One of the routine procedures in the diagnosis of infections involves the collection and safe transportation of a clinical specimen from the patient to the laboratory. This can be accomplished using the Liquid Amies Media. The medium is non-nutritious, so that the transported specimens can be stored in a non-nutritious state for a longer time. The presence of thioglycolate in the medium can form a lower redox potential environment. Phosphate acts as a buffer and sodium chloride maintains the osmotic pressure balance of the media.

PRECAUTIONS:

• For in vitro Diagnostic Use.

• It  must  be  assumed  that  all  specimens  contain  infectious  microorganisms; therefore, all  specimens  should  be  handled  with appropriate precautions. After use, tubes and swabs must be disposed of according to laboratory regulations for infectious waste.

• Directions should be read and followed carefully.

• Liquid Amies Media is for single use only; reuse may cause a risk of infection and/or inaccurate results.

② Storage

This product is ready for use and no further preparation is necessary. The product can be transported at 2-37℃ for 20 days, and it should be stored in its original container at 2 -25°C, valid for  18 months. Do not use after expiration date, which is clearly printed on the outer box and the specimen transport vial label.

Product Deterioration

Contents sterile if unopened or not damaged. Do not use if they show evidence of damage, dehydration or contamination. Do not use if past expiration date.

SPECIMEN COLLECTION AND PREPARATION

Various types of sampling tools (swabs) can be used with Liquid Amies Media For specific recommendations about collection of specimens for microbiological analysis and primary isolation techniques, consult appropriate references 1-3. Once a swab sample is collected, it should be placed in the tube of medium, transported to the laboratory as soon as possible.

PROCEDURES

• Materials Provided: Liquid Amies Media.

• Materials optional: Swabs.

Available as filled tubes in bulk or as patient sample collection packs which can incorporate various combinations of filled tubes with either flocking swab (regular or mini tip) or polyester fiber swabs.

• Materials Required But Not Provided: Appropriate materials for isolating, differentiating and culturing microorganism. These materials include culture media plates or tubes, cell culture plates or tubes, incubation systems, gas jars or anaerobic workstations.

Directions For Use:

Proper specimen collection from the patient is extremely critical for successful isolation and identification of infectious organisms.

For specific guidance regarding specimen collection procedures, consult published reference manuals.

EXPECTED RESULTS

The survival of microorganisms in a transport medium depends on many factors. These include the types of microorganisms, duration of transport, storage temperature, concentration of microorganisms in the sample and formulation of the transport medium. Liquid Amies Media maintain viability of many microorganisms for 24–48 h. For fastidious microorganisms, such as Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Streptococcus pneumoniae, swab specimens should be plated directly onto culture medium or transported immediately to the laboratory and cultured within 24 h.

LIMITATIONS OF THE PROCEDURE

Liquid Amies Media is intended for the collection and transport of bacteriological samples. It may also be used for viral transport when Virus Transport  Kit is not available.

PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS

1.Appearance: the medium in the tube is clear liquid;

2. Growth experiment: Recovery studies were performed using Liquid Amies Media with a variety of aerobic organisms. Swabs were dosed with inoculum and inserted into the transport tube containing transport media. The tubes were stored at room temperature prior to subculturing onto appropriate culture media. Listed are the organisms tested with the media.
